Hilda Rix Nicholas: The man for the job will focus on the Australian images of Rix Nicholas’s career. The exhibition title comes from a statement made by Rix Nicholas’s herself in 1922 when discussing the new direction in her work: ‘It has not been done to any extent … and I feel I am the man for the job.’

Her images of both men and women in Australian pastoral scenes challenged the male-dominated cultural and artistic establishment and effectively isolated her from contemporary Australian women artists’ practice. Her aim however was to present these works to European audiences and in 1925–26 she was the first female Australian artist to have a solo exhibition in both Paris and London with the exhibition then touring to regional galleries throughout the United Kingdom.

Bendigo Pottery is one of Australia’s best known potteries but an aspect of its history has been neglected. Majolica wares were popular in Western Europe in the late 19th century. It was produced by a few Australian colonial potteries. However the finest quality and quantity were produced by the Bendigo Pottery from 1879 to 1911. Bendigo Pottery regularly won medals and certificates for its pottery internationally.

This exhibition will trace the range of majolica wares that emerged from Bendigo pottery. It will include works from public and private collections revealing some extremely rare examples.

Our Festival will be a Cornish type using the theme "Welcome Back Cousin Jack" opening Wednesday March 17 - 2010. Many Cornish activities are planned including local tours of Cornish Ancestory interest, Bardic Ceremony, Dressing of the Graves, Cornish Church Service, search out your Cornish Ancestor History and Displays, local shops window with history displays, Street Parade, Gala Fair, Locally made film, Flower Show, Art Show, Miniature Exhibition, Free Sunday Family Day and Cultural activities, Cycling Criterion, 1/2 Marathon, Deb Ball, Festival Idol, Trivia night, Astronomy viewing, Pet Parade, Local Garden Tour.

One of the biggest bands in rock pop history, Huey Lewis & the News boast over 20 million album sales, two Grammy awards and an Academy Award nomination. Since 1979, the band have consistently toured the world to prove the 80's never really dried up with hits such as "Power of Love", "I want a new drug" and "Hip to be Square" continually on the set list.

ARIA Hall of Fame inductee, Richard Clapton is hailed as one of Australia's greatest singer songwriters, with a career spanning 37 years, Clapton has remained one of the most respected artists in Australian music, recently selling out his last Sydney State Theatre show in less than one hour.

Multi-platinum and ARIA award winning 1927 have recently reformed after a 16 year break and will join the tour to perform their greatest hits such as "That's when I think of you" and "Compulsory Hero".

You're invited to the 140th Bendigo Easter Festival to join in four fantastic days of celebration. The Easter weekend will be filled with activities to honour the festival's Past, Present and Future including: the Gala Parade featuring Sun Loong - the world's longest imperial dragon; Chinese Spring Festival featuring the Awakening of the Dragon and Chinese entertainment; the Torchlight Procession; Easter egg hunt and much more.  Bendigo Bank proudly presents the Bendigo Easter Festival.

This multi-faceted event will be held in Bendigo on Easter weekend.
Historical radio display from the 1920's, 30's and 40's, typical amateur radio station set up plus amazing images taken from the City of Greater Bendigo Telescope.
See the sun during the day with a special solar filter. Learn about radio and astronomy from those who are involved in these pursuits.
The expo is a joint venture of the Midland Amateur Radio Club, Bendigo District Astronomical Society and the Historical Radio Society of Australia.
It will be in the Old Fire Station, View Street Bendigo, entry is a $2 donation with those under 15 admitted free.

The Winegrowers of Bendigo and District invite you to join them in the now traditional vintage festival that is held on Easter Sunday each year in the magnificent Castlemaine Botanical Gardens.

With over thirty of our local winegrowers in attendance, this is your opportunity to sample and cellar the best wines the district has to offer. Festival includes:

Like a bull at the gate Groovin the Moo is ready to charge and rumble: calling all broncos to get on board for a mighty ride in May 2010.

GTM is a travelling musical event like no other in Australia: we set up our shows in regional cities, not the big smoke (OK, we are going to Canberra this year). A one day explosion of carnival and cavorting under the sun, clouds, moon, in front of a chunky outdoor double stage, and in the biggest dance tent since Sheik Yerbouti, as the sun goes down on life as usual.

In 2010, GTM presents a sonic smorgasbord for your delight, rock, rap, dance, metal, hardcore, pop, headlined by Silverchair, Empire of the Sun, Vampire Weekend, Grinspoon, and Tegan and Sara.

Events July 2010

Come and see two of Bendigo's Rock and Classic Covers Bands together for one night. Darkcide have been around Bendigo since the eighties, great local Rock Band. The Grinners perform the Classic Hits from the 60's to today Top 40's. $10 Spit Roast - No Cover Charge - Free Courtesy Bus back into town after the event. Bands start from 8pm to 12:30pm on the night.

The Australian Sheep & Wool Show provides not just animals but a great variety of general interest exhibits, including fashion clothing, fleece and yarn as well as woolcraft competition and demonstration. Also featuring food and wine, daily fashion parades (4 per day) as well as shearing and wool handling.

So there is something for everyone - not just sheep - and do not forget the goats and alpacas.

Events September 2010

Clogging is a misnomer, since it is not performed in clogs but shoes with jingle (or double) taps. Modern clogging is danced to a variety of music from blue grass to rock, pop and country. The Australian Clogging Association National Convention is the premier clogging event of the year in Australia. Each year it is held in different regions on behalf of the ACA. It is a weekend event, with social dancing in the evenings and workshops during the day, catering to all levels of dancers. The Harvest Moon Festival is a special celebration for the Chinese and other Asian cultures around the world. All over Asia communities celebrate the harvest together at the time when the moon is biggest and brightest.

It is a time of thanksgiving for the food which has been produced, future prosperity, health, families and friends.

Events October 2010

The 2009 festival was deemed a great success by all with over 3500 attendees and 44 wineries presenting over 150 wines. And with over 29 food and produce exhibitors no one went hungry. Plans are underway for the 2010 festival so put it in your diaries now - October 2 & 3.

Bendigo Heritage Uncorked is an iconic moveable feast event. The winemakers of Bendigo create this unique wine festival each year to showcase the best of Bendigo - Bendigo wine, superb food, local musicians and grand gold rush architecture.

It is a special opportunity to taste the great wines of the region, matched with gourmet food prepared by local chefs while strolling from one stunning heritage venue to the next. Stunning venues conveniently spaced along historic Pall Mall, and nearby streets have been selected. It is an event with a relaxing pace, allowing you to stroll from one venue to the next while discovering Bendigo’s most spectacular buildings, many of which are usually closed to the public.

The 2010 event will be held on Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 October. Tickets: $90 per person or $80 per person for groups of 6 or more (Sunday only).

• Cars For Sale - Sunday Only - No restriction on age of vehicles, but cars must be driveable (no trailers). Enter through Gate 3 before 9:00am. Drivers enter free, passengers pay day entry fee if not holding a Weekend Pass.
• Large number of Trade and Club Stands.
• Steam and Oil Engines displayed by the Bendigo Steam and Oil Engine Preservation Group inc.
• Motor Bike Display presented by the Ulysses Motor Cycle Club.
• Huge number of indoor and outdoor sites featuring Collectables, Motoring Jewellery and Garagenalia
• Full 'On Site' Catering by non profit volunteer groups.
• Extensive Toy and Model Car show - many new table holders and products will be on show.
• Entry to all displays is free after admission to the Swap.

Events December 2010

Be part of the celebration when we turn the lights on the ‘Downtown Bendigo Christmas Tree’, Friday 3 December.

Families are encouraged to bring a picnic and find a spot on the grass in Queen Victoria Gardens or over the creek in Rosalind Park. Christmas angels and other festive characters will be wandering through park entertaining all ages.
