 DOWNLOAD Bendigo's Shopping Guide

Bendigo was the birthplace of Myer - Australia’s largest retail empire, which opened in 1901. Since Sidney Myer first wheeled his barrowed goods through Bendigo’s streets, this shopping district has set the standard. Boutique fashion, antiques, art galleries, bric-a-brac and contemporary home wares outlets now line the historic streets.

If you’ve got time to wander, a trip to Bendigo’s art precinct in View Street is well worthwhile. It’s an easy and picturesque stroll and you can browse in galleries and antique stores located in historic terraces.   Visit Bendigo Art Gallery, one of Australia’s most well-regarded regional art galleries to explore the retail shop.  The range of designer giftware and art books is a true highlight.  One of the exquisite stores along View Street is Passion For Design, specializing in beautiful things from beautiful places.

Silversmith and jeweller Tony Kean is Bendigo’s creative jeweller, offering exciting jewellery and sculptural concepts, including items based on the Australian landscape, birds and animals. He creates unique pieces in his workshop in Bath Lane.  Also along charming Bath Lane is Lulu’s.  Team a stunning leather jacket with a fabulous handbag from their exclusive Spencer and Rutherford range.

With its terrific range of styles, the fashion conscious can’t miss the Bendigo Hat Shop on High Street. Owner Ali Blood is extremely proud of the shop’s cutting edge designs. For something a little different, some clothing highlights are Rare Boutique on Bull St, and Ultima Fashion in Williamson Street might also be worth a visit.  Each stock an exclusive range of quality designer labels and abundance of innovative local designers.

The Bendigo Visitor Information Centre is also a one-stop shop for local information and locally produced goods.  And don’t forget, the best way to unlock the shopping secrets of any city is to talk to the locals. Bendigonians are proud of their city, who knows what you’ll discover.
