Impressive Arts and Culture
Well-known as an arts hub in Australia, Bendigo thrives with one of the finest regional galleries, an active artisan community and a plethora of cultural events.
Meet the Makers
Small artist studios, galleries, eclectic shops and markets are popping up to showcase this new wealth in the region. Here you'll meet the artists and be able to take home a uniquely created souvenir.
Inspiring Institutions
It's the arts institutions that have continued to inspire and nurture the Bendigo regional arts scene. Since 1858 Bendigo Pottery has been producing fine ceramics and a healthy crop of accomplished potters. Each year art graduates emerge from the local La Trobe University ready to add their talents to the region's canvas. See page 11 for a suggested artists walk of the city centre.
International Showcase
Bendigo Art Gallery is one of Australia's oldest regional galleries, with its historic facadesuperbly contrasted by a modern architecturally designed extension. The Gallery features 19th century artwork and contemporary works, and hosts international and national travelling exhibitions. In August this year, it will be the world's first gallery to host the international exhibition The White Wedding Dress: 200 years of wedding fashions, from the Victoria & Albert Museum, London.
