Genealogy and history buffs will find a stroll through the local Bendigo cemeteries fascinating - so much information about communities can be derived from local cemeteries.

With the gold rush beginning in 1851, consequently Bendigo’s cemetries were established soon after. Some of the local cemeteries have self guided walking tours (see below) detailing their various monuments and other significant structures.

Assistance is also available for researching ancestors.

The Bendigo Public Cemetery is home to the famous Burke and Wills monument, erected with public funds shortly after the news of the ill-fated expedition was received in the 1860s.
