A White Night Bendigo survival guide

White Night – it’s a little event that you may have heard of. And when I say little, I definitely mean it tongue in cheek. White Night first hit Melbourne in 2013 and was an instant success, attracting 300,000 curious event goers. Since then, White Night Melbourne has continued to grow and impress so of course it’s pretty darn exciting to hear that White Night is making its way up the Calder Highway to Bendigo this September 1!

What should you expect at White Night Bendigo? Well, expect more than just projections on buildings. For one night only, White Night will offer an interactive, immersive experience that will see the heart of Bendigo explode with colour, light, sound and of course people… lots of people. I’m talking thousands of us (yes, I will definitely be one of them!).

With that in mind, planning ahead is key to making the most of your White Night experience. Before you rock up on the night, let me share with you my top tips for doing White Night right.

Getting there

Public transport will be your best option and PTV has your back, offering extended train, coach and bus services throughout the night. All the info is now available on their website.

If you plan to drive, be aware that there will be road closures in place and limited car parking available in the CBD. Drivers are encouraged to park at one of the three Park and Ride locations and then catch an express bus to the event precinct.

Bendigo Tramways is also on board. Trams will be running every 10-15 minutes from the Central Deborah Gold Mine and Bendigo Joss House into the precinct. Find out more now

What to wear

Layer up! Bendigo is quite chilly in early spring, especially in the wee hours of the morning (White Night Bendigo goes from 7pm-2am). Most of the works will be outside so if you’re one of the 3 million Victorian’s who own a black puffer jacket – bring it! If not, a regular jacket or coat will do just fine. Perhaps pair it with a beanie and scarf to be on the safe side.

Don’t leave it too late! That’s my number one tip. Accommodation is set to book out on White Night Bendigo weekend. Book you accommodation NOW. I’m not kidding… here’s a link… go on!

What’s going to be on display you ask?

Great question! Download your copy of the White Night Bendigo program and map which features over 50 works on the night. Don't forget to follow White Night Bendigo’s Facebook event or check out the website for all the latest info.
