#1 ROAR! Jurassic World Is Coming To Bendigo

Seriously, does it get any better? Bendigo Marketplace is hosting a dinosaur extravaganza.  We’re talking archaeology dig, colouring station, 3D experience, and a dinosaur small world.  And if that’s not enough you can get your photo taken with a life like dinosaur! I’m there!

#2 Ride The Rails

For little kids and big, the Vintage Talking Tram Tour is a must to take in all the sites of Bendigo.  Our favs include a stop off at the depot to meet Birney the famous tram cat and see where the trams sleep, a delicious gourmet ice cream and play by Lake Weeroona, and time to explore Rosalind Park and climb the poppet head for a bird’s eye view of the city.  Kids under five are free, bonus!

#3 The Science of Sweet Sweet Candy

Find out just how sweet science can be at Bendigo’s Discovery Science and Technology Centre.  Get hands on in the Candy Lab, explore how sugar affects us and how we taste it, and enjoy live demonstrations and an astronomical visual feast.  Yum!

#4 Classic 80s

Popcorn – tick! Snuggly couch – tick!  Get your tickets ready as Star Cinema is holding a School Holiday 80s Classic Film Festival, September 28- 30.  A goodie for the young and young at heart, enjoy a little nostalgia with titles including: Anne (1982), The Dark Crystal (1982) and The Never Ending Story (1984).

#5 For The Adventurous

It’s time to get down and dirty!  This one is for the teenagers who find everything boring.  Gear up in overalls, boots, miner’s hat and lamp, then make the descent 85 metres underground at Central Deborah Gold Mine.  Oh and no tour is complete without a traditional miner’s lunch – cornish pastry come at me!

#6 Calling All Budding Picassos

Inspired by spring and upcoming exhibitions, Bendigo Art Gallery is holding a series of workshops to get all little imaginations blossoming.  Children will take home their very own masterpieces from cat collages, blossom branches and colourful paper birds, to photo-style prints created by the sun.

Bookings essential. Click here for more info.

#7 Tip Toe Around The Tulips

A sea of 30,000 tulips will blanket Bendigo’s gardens at the annual Conservatory Gardens Tulip Display.  Explore the gardens and join a Curator Talk to discover all the secrets behind the scenes from colours and sizes to blooming times.

#8 Choo Choo

Listen to the whistle blow as you lean out the window and enjoy the view from an authentic steam train.  Victorian Goldfields Railway will be running their trains every Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday of the Victorian school holidays with clowns, balloon artists and face painters on board.

#9 Immerse Yourself In A Little Culture

If its wow factor you’re looking for, The Great Stupa is a must do on your list.  Explore the Western World’s largest stupa, play a Tibetan singing bowl, touch the halo of the Jade Buddha and spin the prayer wheels.  It’s a beautiful escape from the city to learn about another culture.

Learn more here or join us for their upcoming Vegecareian Festival.

#10 Create Your Own

Get ready because Arnold Street Gallery is holding creative workshops for primary and secondary school kids in music, large bird paintings, jewellery and badge making. That’s right, professional artists will be taking over the gallery to encourage our young artists to explore and reflect their imagination in their own creative ways.
