Wine Experiences Worth Bragging About

Ever had a holiday so memorable you wish you could bottle it? Get your corks ready. Bendigo is home to some amazing wine experiences that will leave you bragging to your besties and your Insta buddies.  From crafting your own drop, meeting the makers, visiting an historic 19th century bank building home to more than 1,000 wines, or sleeping amongst the vines, here’s a selection of Bendigo’s essential wine experiences.

Ever dreamt of creating your own wine? Wine lovers, this is the ultimate experience that just keeps on giving! The team at The Shiraz Republic will take you on a year-long immersive experience like no other, from picking your own grapes and crushing them to crafting your very own drop.  Your labour of love will end with a case of your own Shiraz down to designing your own label.

Ready to take your love of wine to the next level, quite literally? With an epic view of our city and the vines that surround it...experience it all from the sky in a hot air balloon! Grab a selfie with the sunrise as your backdrop or even with the BalloonMan himself as he guides your ride soundlessly across the skies.

Coming in to land at Balgownie Estate, the uber enthusiastic morning people can continue the adventure, fuelled by breakfast in the cellar door restaurant.  But if retreating to your luxury glamping tent to snuggle under the doona is more your style, then you’ve found the right place. Either way, the cellar door opens mid-morning or the city is just a short drive away!

So you’ve ticked picking, crushing, tasting, and flying over grapes off your list, what’s next? Take some time to meet the makers, hear their stories, and discover their hidden talents.  Let’s be honest, wandering with a glass of red in hand while enjoying local art is not a bad way to spend an afternoon, am I right?

Your Instagram game will be even more inspired after checking out the photography of John and Claire from Killiecrankie Wines,on display in their historic red brick workers cottage. Or, just quietly, you could earn some brownie points and surprise your S.O. with a one-of-a-kind piece from Cheryl’s jewellery collection at Glenwillow Wines. They also have stunning straight-to-the-pool-room wine barrel art! That’s art, on wine barrels, in case you were curious.

If all of that wandering and wine tasting is making you ponder an afternoon nap, there are some stunning places where you can almost fall asleep amongst the vines. Love the idea of original sandstone walls and a forest-to-explore next door? Byronsvale Vineyard & Accommodation is for you.  Maybe the luxury of a cosy cottage at Sandhurst Ridge Winery might be more your style. Or, tuck yourself away in a valley with native gardens at Lynnevale Estate Winery

While the vines are pretty picturesque, sometimes the place to be is an iconic historic 19th century bank building complete with a Guard’s Room - home to over 1,000 wines! I think it goes without saying you’re in for a treat here. Whether you’re sampling endless wines, exploring this unique space or cosying up to the open wood fire with your favourite drop and some local produce...Wine Bank on View is a must-do.
