The Bendigo International Festival of Exploratory Music brings the most innovative and virtuosic concert music from all around the world direct to Bendigo’s View Street Cultural precinct.

The Bendigo International Festival of Exploratory Music strutted onto the international music scene in September 2013, winning critical praise from around the world and delivering festival and broadcast audiences a visceral experience. With an emphasis on premiere or rarely performed long form works, BIFEM platforms virtuosity in musicianship and innovation in composition.

This year the Capital Venues and Events and Bendigo International Festival of Exploratory Music proudly present the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra in their Victorian and BIFEM début. The ASO’s 40-player BIFEM residency will feature two stunning lyrical programmes at the Ulumbarra Theatre in Bendigo. These two concerts will showcase the skill and power of Australia’s most adventurous orchestra, right at home in Australia’s most respected and exciting new music festival.

The Saturday night programme features two rarely performed North American 20th century iconic pieces: Morton Feldman’s intimate portrait and homage To Samuel Beckett and Canadian composer Claude Vivier’s hauntingly beautiful  Lonely Child, sung by the extraordinary Australian soprano Jane Sheldon.Both concerts will be live broadcast by ABC Classic FM in their first ever live broadcast from Ulumbarra Theatre.
